What could have been
The day we traveled by train from Nice to our favorite hotel on the beach south of Barcelona, we bypassed my favorite singer/songwriter, Rufus Wainwright, performing later that night at the music festival in Girona, Spain.

The timing didn't work out for me to stop and see him (for my 11th Rufus show), but I was slightly comforted to know I would see the same tour a few weeks later at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis.
About a week later, we visited Girona again, this time to dine at El Cellar de Can Roca. In the guide books, we read about the many steps leading up to the Girona Cathedral. Once we got there, we found chairs set up for the music festival Rufus had kicked off. The Beach Boys were on deck for the night after we left.
Girona Cathedral, completed in 1410, boasts the widest Gothic nave in the world, and the second widest nave of all styles after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The bell tower was completed in 1117.
